Okami is an action-adventure video game developed by Clover Studio and published by Capcom. This game combines several Japanese myths, legends and folklore to tell the story of how the land was saved from darkness by the sun goddess Amaterasu, who took the form of white wolf.
The game allows the player to control the goddess, Amaterasu. This gameplay style is a mix of action, platform and puzzle gaming genres. Moreover, the main story of this game is primarily linear directed through by Amaterasu to complete several quests. By completing quests and several activities, Amaterasu earns praise, which can increase various statistics of the character.
Okami allows the player to control Amaterasu in the form of white wolf. Amaterasu is referred in the Japanese and European version of the game as a female, while in the North American version she was not destined any gender. At the end of the game, Amaterasu encounters Yami, the main antagonist and final boss of the game who resembles a small fish inside a huge sphere. Yami is also the ruler of the demons.
Okami resulted from the combined ideas of Clover Studio. Moreover, this game is mainly built around the theme of nature. Additionally, the lead designer Kamiya created a one minute demonstration movie showing the wolf running about a forest with flowers blossoming in its path. Kamiya admitted that the normal gaming was bore to play and hence resulted in more improvement of the gaming.
